| San Jose, Calif. – September 11, 2006 – Selectica (NASDAQ: SLTC), a leading provider of configuration, sales execution and contract management applications, today announced the United Kingdom’s Royal Mail is using Selectica’s industry leading pricing and configuration solution to power the new Royal Mail Online Price Finder. The Price Finder Application allows online users to calculate the postage of items they wish to mail. The application also acts as the only entry point into Royal Mail’s new online postage printing application, allowing users to buy and print their own postage directly from their computer. In addition the Pricing Engine itself is accessible via Royal Mail’s website to allow its customers to retrieve accurate and up to date pricing information.
One of the main driving factors for this redevelopment was the new pricing system that Royal Mail introduced on August 21, 2006. Royal Mail’s postage prices are now based on size, as well as weight, to more accurately reflect the costs of collecting, sorting and delivering mail. Under the new system, more than 80 percent of all mail will cost the same or less to send.
Royal Mail has been working jointly with Selectica since 2001 when the company developed the original Price Finder for Royal Mail. Due to Selectica’s proven expertise and depth of understanding of Royal Mail's pricing structure and the existing application, it was chosen to develop the new application.
“Our long relationship with Selectica began when we selected it to develop the original Price Finder to help our customers. Selectica’s Configurator solution enables us to make the postage pricing calculator available on our website, so customers can easily calculate, buy and print their own postage at the click of a mouse,” explained Dennis Greene, Royal Mail’s head of e-business. “The addition of an administration tool also enables business users to take control of changes to their postage prices, reducing the time required for production updates from over three weeks to less than three days.”
“By automating manual, disparate processes, Selectica’s configuration and pricing solution enables Royal Mail to offer individuals and business customers the ability to easily calculate and buy postage from wherever they wish,” said James Dias, vice president of marketing and sales at Selectica. “The integration of Selectica’s configuration solution also ensures that the postage paid on each of the 84 million items sent daily through Royal Mail more accurately reflects the cost of collecting, sorting and delivering the mail.”
